Certification Credential
Currently the FNCB offers the SANE-A and SANE-P credentials, which are professional international certifications for sexual assault nurse examiner-adult/adolescent and sexual assault nurse examiner-pediatric. SANE-A and SANE-P are the earned credentials which recognize that the highest standards of forensic nursing for sexual assault nurse examiners has been achieved. Nurse Examiners can become certified by meeting eligibility requirements and successfully completing the SANE-A or SANE-P examination. Re-certification is available by examination or documented continuing education over the three year period.

Nurse Examiners with SANE-A after their name are Board-Certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners-Adult/Adolescent. Nurse Examiners with SANE-P after their name are Board-Certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners-Pediatric.Earning certification demonstrates professional commitment, a key capacity of leadership. Nurse Examiners who take the extra step to become certified in their specialty document their commitment to quality care. Specialty certification is increasingly becoming an essential nursing credential.
Becoming Board-Certified is a statement that the Nurse Examiner has accepted the challenge of preparing for and passing a rigorous examination demonstrating refined knowledge and critical thinking skills in clinical practice.
